Happening Now: This incident is still in progress and our information is limited at this early time in the investigation. At this time our information is coming from neighbors near the incident and police radio traffic.

Last night deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department responded near the intersection of Sun West Dr. and Sun Valley Ct. in Salida, California for reports of a shooting.

2 victims suffering from gunshot wounds were transported to an area hospital. Their current condition is unknown.

We talked with some neighbors who said that the victims were a father and son. That information has not been confirmed by deputies.

It appears that the shooting may have occurred after several suspects forced their way into the home. We are waiting on a press release for more information.

Deputies are still at the scene as of 1:30 am and have called in a SWAT Team. Because of this, it would be reasonable to assume that deputies believe they may have one or more suspects cornered in a house.

Stay tuned to Modesto News .org . We will update you when more information is released.

Update: A heroic father and son were shot during a home invasion in Salida this evening, allowing family members to escape and call law enforcement.

At approximately 8:30 PM Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call of a home invasion in the 500 block of Sun Valley Ct in Salida.

A father was at home with his wife and two sons, ages 8 and 15, when 4-5 subjects came to their front door. When they opened the door the subjects forced their way into the residence. The suspects began demanding cash and jewelry while holding the family at gun point.

The father and 15 year old son began fighting with the suspects, allowing the mother and 8 year old to escape and run to the neighbors house to get help. While they were fighting with the suspects there were several gun shots fired and the father and 15 year old were shot. The suspects then ran out of the house and fled the area in an unknown vehicle. The father and son also fled to the neighbors residence to get help.

Once Deputies were on scene they set up perimeters around the house. The father and 15 year old son were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Stanislaus SWAT team is currently on scene clearing the residence to insure there are no suspects left inside.

Sheriff's Department Deputies and Detectives are following up on all leads. This is an ongoing investigation and no further information is being released at this time.

Anyone with information in regards to this case is asked to call the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department Watch Commander at 209-525-7188.
